Arsenal News: Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus’ teammate, has only been an Arsenal player for a little more than a week. However, he already sees the traits Gabriel Jesus will bring to the Emirates next season.
The 25-year-old striker signed a lucrative five-year contract with the Gunners earlier this month after leaving Manchester City in a £45 million transfer deal.
Like Odegaard, Arsenal supporters are eager to see Jesus in action when their Premier League season opens against Crystal Palace on August 5. He has already scored three goals in two preseason games.
The Norwegian midfielder admitted, “I’ve only practiced with him for a few days now, but it doesn’t take long to notice that he has a lot of potential. I believe he will contribute greatly to the team. I’ve watched him play frequently for Man City, and I really believe we are fortunate to have him.
Arsenal News: What did Odegaard say?
“I think it could be a lot of fun to play with him and connect up. In training, you get a lot of opportunities to observe him. Strikers have varied preferences, therefore you must observe them in practice to determine where he wants the ball. My responsibility is to provide for him and make him score goals. What I want to do is that.
“I have to get a handle on his movements, his preferred method of receiving the ball, his preferred location, and similar things. Although it takes some time, you may get a feel for it during training, so I believe everything will be alright.
Odegaard, whose efforts during the previous season weren’t sufficient to ensure Champions League qualifying, is aware that the Gunners must perform even better this year and is hoping that new additions like Jesus might be a motivating factor.
The former Real Madrid starlet said, “It definitely helps to get some fresh players in and to make the group a little bigger.”
“We may have been a little short towards the end of the previous season. Last year’s season was successful. Although we didn’t reach our desired final position, I believe we made significant progress both before the season and while it was in progress. We need to advance this year, and I believe the additional additions will enable us to accomplish so.”
What did Arteta say?
While on tour in the United States, Jesus is already enjoying life with the north Londoners, and manager Mikel Arteta is pleased with the early performances of his new No. 9.
“He appears to be quite active and sharp. Right away, (he has) a really excellent rapport with his teammates, according to Arteta.
“They are seeking him, he is creating opportunities and solid connections in areas we really want to exploit with him, so yes, we are very thrilled.”
