Clubs have been impressed with Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale amid claims Chelsea are looking to sign him in 2024.
Aaron Ramsdale’s future is under the microscope with a number of clubs thought to have been impressed with the Arsenal goalkeeper.
The Telegraph’s Jason Burt has been speaking on Sky Sports News about Ramsdale’s future.
Ramsdale was surprisingly benched by Mikel Arteta against Everton as summer signing David Raya came into the side.
This has sparked conversation over Ramsdale’s future with some believing that he may need to move on.
Arteta is adamant that he will rotate his goalkeepers like any other position, even suggesting that he could substitute a goalkeeper if needed.
Burt thinks that Arteta will settle on a number one stopper though, believing that Raya will be his choice moving forward.
Burt adds that a number of clubs have been impressed with Ramsdale and London rivals Chelsea may well be one of the clubs in the mix,
“I think this is definitely one to watch,” said Burt. “If you’re Aaron Ramsdale, you’re on the cusp of the England team, you’re challenging Jordan Pickford for that number one spot, you’ve come off the back of a good season at Arsenal, you’ve been shortlisted for prized around the world in terms of your goalkeeping, people are talking about you and suddenly, you’re fighting for your place.”
“Although Arteta has talked about rotating all the players, I think, eventually, you do tend to settle on a number one in terms of the goalkeeper, and I would be surprised if that isn’t David Raya. Aaron Ramsdale may stay at Arsenal this season but I think that, after that, he will have a decision to make over his future and clubs will be watching him because clubs have been impressed by his performances since he joined Arsenal and Chelsea are certainly in the market for a goalkeeper, so I wouldn’t be surprised if they were one of those clubs monitoring the situation very closely,” he added.
Chelsea keen on Aaron Ramsdale
We are only a few days removed from Arsenal’s win over Everton and yet the Ramsdale rumours are already starting.
The Daily Mail reported earlier this week that both Chelsea and Bayern Munich are looking into signing Ramsdale.
Chelsea just signed two new goalkeepers by landing Robert Sanchez and Djordje Petrovic.
Rumours that Chelsea want another shot-stopper is something of a surprise given those two deals, but maybe the Blues think Ramsdale is just that much better.
Arsenal and Chelsea have been striking deals in recent times, including the likes of Jorginho and Kai Havertz.
Maybe Ramsdale to Chelsea is a possibility, but the England international seems to have other plans for now…
Ramsdale stance explained
90Min report that Ramsdale has no plans to leave Arsenal despite being benched in favour of Raya.
The former Sheffield United man is keen to fight for his place and isn’t angling for a move away from the Emirates Stadium.
That’s Ramsdale’s stance right now, but it could change come January or the end of the season.
Ramsdale’s Euro 2024 role could be at stake here and if Raya ends up becoming Arsenal’s first-choice stopper this season.
It’s a long campaign and whilst Ramsdale doesn’t seem worried right now, a difficult decision may come down the line for the £24m stopper.
