Jay Bothroyd shut down any suggestion that Declan Rice won’t become one of Arsenal’s highest-paid players if he joins from West Ham United this summer.
It was suggested that the England midfielder could earn ‘£170k-a-week’ deal at Arsenal, but Bothroyd made it clear on Twitter that there is ‘no way’ of that happening.
There is heavy talk around Declan Rice heading to the Emirates and Bothroyd added that if he does sign then he will earn ‘in the region of Bukayo Saka or more’.
“There is no way Declan Rice is signing for Arsenal for potentially the biggest transfer fee ever and then not be one of the highest earners at the club,” said Bothroyd. “He will definitely be on at least 220k per week!!! He will be in the region of Saka probably more…”
Wages seem to be an early issue for Arsenal, with the summer window yet to open, because there are worrying claims coming out about William Saliba.
The French defender has 12 months left to run on his contract, but talks over a new deal are stalling and it seems as though Saka’s big-money bumper contract has set the tone.
Whatever Saka gets, Rice will want and so will Saliba. If Arsenal want to go right to the top again, then they need to stick their chest out here and put the food on the table.

Mikel Arteta has Arsenal’s trust in the transfer market
In previous years, the spending might not have been so heavy, but they can afford to take the risks now.
Arteta can be trusted. Yes, he hasn’t got over that trophy-winning line yet, in terms of the Premier League, but he has come closer than anyone ever before.
Plus, from Aaron Ramsdale to Ben White. He has proven that he can take big-money signings and take them to levels, not many others expected.
