Don Hutchison thinks Arsenal won’t be signing West Ham United captain Declan Rice and Brighton and Hove Albion star Moises Caicedo for ‘£175 million’ this summer.
The former Liverpool player thinks Declan Rice possibly securing a transfer to Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal is ‘a bit of a gamble’ for the West Ham midfielder, as he told ESPN.
Added to that, after he read rumours that Moises Caicedo could also sign for ‘£75 million’, he ‘wouldn’t imagine’ the north London club paying that fee and also ‘£100 million’ for Rice.
After shooting themselves in the foot in the Premier League title race this season, it’s obvious that quality in depth is needed if the team are to get over that dotted line.
Added to what Arteta already at his disposal, if you bring in Rice and Caicedo, then that certainly tunes things up to high, high levels.
But Hutchison raised his doubts, especially because he feels that Arsenal won’t even secure Champions League football next season.
“I think Arsenal is a bit of a gamble (for Rice),” said Hutchison. “I am not sure if they finish top four next season. We have to wait and see what they do.
“I was reading in the press that they are preparing a bid for Caicedo for £75 million. Have they got the money to go Caicedo £75 million and £100 million for Rice? I wouldn’t imagine so. I think he (Rice) has a pick of a lot of clubs.”

Rice and Caicedo signings would be a statement from Arsenal
Many Arsenal fans feel they shot themselves in the foot rather than Manchester City, who are now Treble winners, steam-rolling them to the title.
One of the reasons behind that was a lack of depth, and if they can sort that out this summer, then things might just be very different next season.
That’s why, if they can secure a deal for both Rice and Caicedo, then it would be a serious statement of intent from the north London club.
