Gary Neville thinks Mikel Arteta could start Arsenal duo Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah together.
On Sunday, during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park, it was Eddie Nketiah who led the line, before he was replaced by Gabriel Jesus after the hour mark.
But Neville spoke about how ‘you don’t see it very often’, but Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah lining up together could now happen, as he told Sky Sports Premier League (17/09/23 at 5:50 pm).
It’s obvious to all that Gabriel Jesus is the main man up top, with Arsenal’s Hale-End star only coming in when his counterpart is injured.
That’s the case at the start of this new Premier League season and it was the case after the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
It is logical for Arteta to go down the road of playing the two together because the former Manchester City man can play across the front three.
Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah to start together?
“They can’t get their centre-forward in their game, that is always a problem (on Nketiah’s lack of touches against Everton),” says Neville. “I don’t think you can wholely blame him.
“They could be playing together Nketiah and Jesus. You don’t see it very often.”
Is Eddie Nketiah ‘elite’?
That was the question raised by the Premier League’s all-time record goalscorer, Alan Shearer – he seemingly thinks that Nketiah isn’t of that top, top standard yet.
And given that Nketiah provides less outside of the penalty box than Jesus, it just puts extra pressure on the Englishman to find the back of the net.
One thing Nketiah can’t moan about is the lack of minutes because he is getting them. Now it’s time to shut the critics up.
